Have you ever really wanted or needed to achieve a goal…
but then didn’t even try …
… because you thought it was “simply impossible”?
Or maybe you have a team or client that have told you “it’s impossible!” in response to you challenging them to achieve a very ambitious by very worthwhile goal?
My passion in life is developing simple methods and apps to help people discover and overcome the limiting beliefs that block them from achieving ambitious life and business goals.
In 2006, I developed probably the simplest, but one of the most powerful and most universally applicable of these methods, to help people do just that.
I called this method “Impossible, Unless?”
Here’s how it works:
Step 1: Start with a Goal that you, your team or a client think is “simply impossible.”
Hint: If you or they don’t have such a goal, take one of your or their life or business goals, and either keep increasing the magnitude of the goal, or reduce the time to achieve it, until you or they say “Now It’s impossible!”
Step 2: Ask yourself or them this simple question: “It’s impossible [to achieve your goal]… UNLESS…?”
Something fascinating will happen.
Asking this simple question (UNLESS…?) will automatically shift your or their brain into problem-solving mode. This disruption “forces” our brain to start exploring what the specific conditions are that will make the impossible, possible. Often, this is the only thing you, your team or your client, needs to get unstuck, and to enable you or them to identify exactly how to achieve very ambitious goals considered to be impossible just moments before.
It is such a simple yet powerful technique that anyone can apply it at any time.
It has helped me countless times in different areas of my life and have helped me help others do the same.
That is why I decided to create a podcast series titled “Impossible, Unless?” to share this method.
Each episode features a specific goal that many might think is “simply impossible” and then I share the ”unless” conditions we have discovered through more than 3 decades of research, that can make the impossible possible.
The key to my breakthrough was facing a very stressful situation when a senior manager of a large mining company, during a workshop to find ways to increase the output of the mine, angrily shouted “It’s simply impossible. If it was possible, we would be bloody doing it!”
What would you have done in such a situation? Especially, if like me at the time, you had no real experience or intuition on how to increase the output of their type of mining operation?
As one of my heroes, Nelson Mandela famously said, “It always seems impossible until it is done.”
I would love to hear your stories of what goals you or a client would consider “simply impossible”, and how this technique could help you or them discover and overcome a limiting belief to make the impossible…possible.
Hope you enjoy the episode.
